Autobiographic Illustrated story
After around 50-years of artistry, Pjotr Müller (1947) looks back on his career in the form of a self-drawn autobiography in comic book form. The illustrated story was originally very personal, intended for his dyslectic son Mo. Müller began by making a series of coloured prints of his artworks, for which he created fictional surroundings using a black pen. A complete life story gradually evolved, in which he describes his life as an artist, his motives for becoming a sculptor, his relationship with his family and professional entourage, his inspiration and of course his oeuvre to date.
The book was previously presented in the Kröller-Müller Museum (30. September 2017) and in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (15. October 2017). The original drawings were on display from 16-9-2017 to 14-1-2018 in the print room of the Kröller-Müller Museum and at Gallery Phoebus in Rotterdam from 25-01-2018 to 15-04-2018.
During the Stripdagen Haarlem 2018, the original drawings of the book were shown at the exposition Pjotr Müller & Joost Swarte from 18 May to 3 June 2018 in the Griffioen Grafiek Pop-Up Gallery, Spaarnwouderstraat 74 in Haarlem. See link Stripdagen Haarlem expositie Pjotr Müller & Joost Swarte.
The eponymous documentary, of moviemakers Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth, was also shown during the presentations and the term of the exhibitions. In the book and the documentary Pjotr Muller relates about his work and the inspirations for my work and the making of the comic. The relationship with his son Mo plays an important role.
